Renovare Development is developing a scattered site Transformational Brownfield Redevelopment Project
in Downtown Munising, Michigan.
Comprised of over 15 miles of shoreline along Lake Superior, which includes over 100 miles of scenic trails and colorful sandstone cliffs, Munising was the poster child of the Pure Michigan campaign and was featured on Good Morning America in 2015, creating a significant increase in tourism in the last eight years. Munising is known around the world for its natural resources, cultural amenities and year-long recreational activities. The largest tourist attraction in Munising is the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. This amenity alone brings Millions of tourists to Munising each year. However, the lack of Downtown amenities results in the loss of several hundred tourists after they exit the boat tours for Pictured Rocks.
The “Munising Marketplace” Project consists of a proposed three-story mixed-use building on vacant lots located on the south side of Superior Avenue between Maple and Birch in Downtown Munising that will include the following:
39 mixed-income residential studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom units ranging from 396 to 1,034 square feet, with 30% set aside for incomes below 80% AMI; and
12,400 square feet of rentable ground floor community-centered commercial/retail space, including a workforce development center master-leased by MichiganWorks! a daycare center, an anchor restaurant, and multiple retail spaces.
The total building size is estimated at 45,258 square feet.
The 2,500 square foot Workforce Development Center will be located in the ground floor of Munising Marketplace and include an on-site workforce training space for coaching, job placement skills and employer-driven courses to facilitate tenant employment with local employers. The programs will include local apprenticeships, youth training programs, partnerships with schools and universities and collaborations across industry stakeholders, community-based organizations, educational institutions, and businesses.
